Land under Federal ownership, control or influence

When Texas entered the Union in 1845, part of the annexation agreement was the new State would maintain ownership of the outgoing Republic’s land. With territories that became states, the Federal government already owned or controlled almost all of the land.

That’s one of those Remember the Alamo things.
