Somebody shot a 3-year-old girl in St. Petersburg Thursday…

… and the mayor immediately started talking about “gun violence.”

The shooter or shooters also hit 23-year-old Terrell Holliman. It was at least the second time Holliman had been shot by people in a passing car. On Jan. 17, 2015 Holliman “was riding on a bike at 14th Avenue S and 19th Street when he was hit by shots fired from a car, (police spokeswoman Yolanda) Fernandez said.”

A community activist said the city was not providing enough opportunities for youths.

“Community activist Theresa ‘Momma Tee’ Lassiter sat in her white sedan outside the crime scene tape and dabbed at tears.

"’When I look at this community, nothing has changed,’ she said. ‘Nothing is better.’

“Lassiter rattled off the names of City Council members..., saying they have failed to provide opportunities and safety for the residents of Midtown.”

Holliman had an arrest record, police said.
