Homeowner, racking 12-guage: ‘Come on down!’

Elmira police are still investigating a home invasion early Sunday in which the intruder was shot, but police say the occupant who fired the shot will not be charged.

Police on Monday identified the suspect as Jason A. Lopez, 33, of Elmira. Police officers responded at 6:12 a.m. Sunday to a residence in the 500 block of Perine Street for a report of a home invasion in progress.

Officers learned that the intruder had made entry into the residence and was shot by one of the occupants.

The resident shot Lopez with a 12-gauge shotgun which was legally possessed, police said. Lopez remained in a local hospital Monday receiving treatment for a single gunshot wound.

Shooting with my wife

A year ago I gave a Smith and Wesson revolver to my wife on her birthday. Two days ago, she and I went to a gun range, where she fired the revolver for the first time.

Between gift and use, Priscilla had undergone a mastectomy and several months of recovery. Before she was fully recovered, she had kidney surgery, which necessitated another recovery period.

Priscilla did well at the range. She fired 15 rounds and hit the target 13 times. That means a substantial number of lead slugs went into disabling or fatal areas of the target, had the paper been a robber or other bad person who meant harm.

We will go to the range more often. Soon, Priscilla will place all shots in the center of the target.

Mr. Bloom’s message to the rabble running Britain

He who lives by the sword is quite capable of defending his home.

“He said to them, ‘But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don't have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one.’” – Luke 22:36.

Defending the castle

“A thief in Cleveland, Ohio tried to walk a victim back into his house at gun point when someone in the house busted caps on him. The criminal was pronounced DOT (dead over there) after he transported himself to the hospital.”

http://thisainthell.us/blog/?p=69832

Fox8Cleveland says the dead dude dropped two handguns and ran away after he was shot. Two pistols, and he’s dropped by a good guy from the house. Ta-da.

(Picky: The good shooter was not one of the bad guy’s “victims.” Through a well-placed shot, he saved his friend and kept himself from being a victim.)

A ‘Yeah, but…’ headline

‘14-year-old shoots woman mistaken for animal in East Texas’

Rest of story: “Authorities found the woman’s car covered by a tarp and hidden in the backyard (sic) of the abandoned building. The woman did not have permission to be at the location and appeared to be burglarizing the house.”

Let’s hear it for the older shooter

“In San Antonio, Texas, an intruder broke the doorknob off while he was breaking into an elderly couple’s home – the 70-year-old put one round center mass. The criminal was DRT (dead right there) when police arrived.”

(I say “older” rather than “old” because I am 70, and that’s not as old as it used to be.)

Castle owners defending the castle

John Lilya of This Ain’t Hell – But you can see it from here every day comes up with homeowner defense of property, part of that “We hold these truths to be self-evident” understanding.

“Carrie Leigh Richards, 24, and Hannah Nicole Kenney, 23 broke into a Greenville, South Carolina home which alerted the homeowner’s dogs. The resident met them with his firearm which he used to hold the pair until the police arrived to cart them off to the hoosegow.

‘In Cincinnati, Ohio a group of armed men forced their way into a college student’s apartment. The student, though, was armed, too and busted caps on the group. It looks like he missed them all, though, but they all un-assed the AO at a high rate of speed.

“You might remember the story of Trayvon Johnson from last month in Miami. Florida where Treyvon tried to burglarize a home, but the woman who lived there killed him. His cousin famously defended Trayvon’s life of crime as his sole means of support. Well, his brother, Vaughn, turned himself in yesterday as Trayvon’s accomplice that day. Vaughn made a video confession and he’s been charged with Trayvon’s murder.”

(My unsensitivity meter really kicked in when Trayvon’s cousin demanded to know how, other than by robbing, the criminal was expected to get money to buy stuff? We could talk about making choices, but as my wife says, “You can’t argue with idiots.”)

Devol, Oklahoma

2000 census, 150 people. From earlier years: “Devol is said to have had a four churches, lumber store, feel store, a hotel, two dance halls/bars, a brothel and hundreds of small structures to rent as a home during the growing Burk boom.” (Emphasis added.)

A “feel store” and a brothel?

Modern explanation: “For every 100 females there were 114.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 107.1 males.”

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devol,_Oklahoma

You got more men than women in a town, you got problems.

Devol came up at http://thisainthell.us/blog/?p=59108 where there is a story of a man who got his life changed after trying to break into a house only to find the resident had a gun.

Defending Jerusalem

Nehemiah 4:7 -- But when Sanballat, Tobiah, the Arabs, the Ammonites and the people of Ashdod heard that the repairs to Jerusalem’s walls had gone ahead and that the gaps were being closed, they were very angry. 8 They all plotted together to come and fight against Jerusalem and stir up trouble against it. 9 But we prayed to our God and posted a guard day and night to meet this threat.

4:13 -- Therefore I stationed some of the people behind the lowest points of the wall at the exposed places, posting them by families, with their swords, spears and bows. 14 After I looked things over, I stood up and said to the nobles, the officials and the rest of the people, “Don’t be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your families, your sons and your daughters, your wives and your homes.”
