Pretend sex is OK. Except when it is not.
Before today, I never heard the term “twerking.” I had seen videos of (almost always) women doing what seemed to be fornication without a partner, what my wife calls soft porn.
The term now will be or is all over everything since 33 high school seniors near San Diego took part in a video with girls pretty much (see above) fornicating without a partner.
The thing is, fornicating without a partner (FWOP) has been OK until the San Diego video “went viral.”
But, see, I’m an old dude … an old white dude … so it is meaningless, my certainty that FWOPping degrades women.

The thieving bastards after my mother-in-law’s money have not changed focus from the tyranny of Obama to the tyranny of the IRS.
I am surprised. When IRS foot-dragging and illegal requests to some non-profits became public knowledge, I thought the thieving bastard groups would ask for money to fight the tax collectors.
But if this last week’s mail is an indication, the focus is the same – fear, duplicity and intimidation in alleged attempts at overturning Obama legislation.
Only eight letters arrived Wednesday.
• Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) sent petitions for signature and return, the petitions “to Reverse Roe v. Wade” for delivery to Arkansas Senators Mark Pryor and John Boozman, Rep. Tim Griffin, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnel and House Majority Leader John Boehner. Sen. Rand also asked for a “sacrificial contribution” of money or “whatever you can afford” to National Pro-Life Alliance in Annadale, Va. I am considering sending a goat.
• Rep. Kerry Bentivolia (R-Mich.) wants money for Citizen Outreach in order to “repeal Obamacare’s medical device tax.” I searched “medical device tax” and to my surprise discovered “Some medical device manufacturers not paying their share of health reform.” http://thehill.com/blogs/congress-blog/healthcare/301887-some-medical-device-manufacturers-not-paying-their-share-of-health-reform You know one way to tell a Liberal/Progressive site? By the use of “share,” in the sense of “fair share.” Billionaires don’t pay their fair share of income taxes, that sort of thing. Congress should get rid of the medical device tax, but my mother-in-law does not need a congressman from Michigan asking for her money.
• Alan Keyes and J.C. Watts ask for money through Christian fellowship and conservative action, said money bound for Declaration Alliance in Houston. I have heard Keyes speak in person and former Rep. Watts on television, and I know both men are much more articulate than is whoever wrote the letters above their signatures. For a donation of $35 or more, you will get a copy of We Won’t Get Fooled Again, a book said to be “a huge service to the Christian Community.”

Detroit and Russia make for great photography sites
Abandoned buildings make great photographic subjects. Some buildings make more important statements abandoned than when they were utilized for the reason of construction. Just do a search for “abandoned churches in Russia.”
Detroit has abandoned buildings in the thousands. All are hazards -- from falling down, as home for rats and dogs, as arson targets that threaten other buildings. The Detroit Fire Department battles fires in abandoned buildings every night.

DETROIT — Firefighting in Detroit is a whole different world.
In a city that once had a population of two million but is now at just under 800,000, the buildings, life itself, is decaying rapidly.
Street after street of storefronts, homes, churches, factories are simply abandoned.
The former Packard Automotive plant, which is reportedly the largest abandoned plant in the world, topping 3.5 million square feet, is eerily silent. The only people who visit the area now are tourists. There is a van offering guided tours around the gutted ruins. But not after dark.
It's also impossible to drive through the streets of Motor City for five minutes without seeing structures charred by fire. Arsonists are busy here.
So are firefighters.
One-third of the Detroit Fire Department halls have been shut down through budget cuts. Despite gunshots ringing out nearby and packs of roving wild dogs looking on, police rarely attend fires.
Mostly, firefighters simply do their best to make sure the flames from burning abandoned buildings don't damage surrounding structures. They knock down flaming walls, contain the heat, and douse their own equipment so it doesn't get damaged.
Fire just speeds up the course of the crumbling decay of Detroit.
"It's a city with no laws," admits Detroit veteran firefighter Ted Roney. "Nobody cares about anything."
Nobody but those trying to keep the remains safe for the remaining.

Verizon Wireless is not user friendly
All I wanted was to give Verizon some of my money; i.e., pay my bill.
Could I just call Verizon and tell a real, live, human-type person, “Hi. I would like to give your company some of my money”?
You know the odds of that happening – between 0 and minus-0.
Sunday’s adventure in trying to pay a bill began when my Verizon phone made the sound that means “You’ve got text.” I checked. The text said, “Your payment is now due. Please make a payment by dialing #PMT (#768) from your handset or by calling 888-821-0284.”
I dialed #767. A pleasant voice said, “Welcome to Verizon wireless.” A not-as-pleasant-voice said, “Tikka, tikka, tikka Espanol, tikka, tikka, tikka.” The pleasant voice said, “Please enter your secure password.”
I looked at my Verizon phone. I don’t know why. It’s a habit probably most people have. The phone says something stupid or wrong, you look at it, as though your stern visage will cause the phone to say, “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to sound stupid. Let me correct what I said.”
The phone never says that, but you look at it anyway, every time.
My reason for looking at my Verizon phone: (1) I don’t have a secure password. (2) I was trying to give money to Verizon; why did I need a password? If I had been trying to get money from Verizon, then I might need a password. But to give money to Verizon, I need a password?
I thought, Maybe my Verizon voicemail password will work.
The Verizon voice said my entry was incorrect and I should hang up and try again. When I got smarter than the Verizon phone?
I called again, thinking, How about 0-0-0-0 and a real, live, human-type person will come on the line?
Nope. Incorrect, call again.
I got a phone book from the lamp table. (Yes, a real, paper, thick, tree-killing phone book. I was at my mother-in-law’s house, and she believes a phone book is a necessity of life. She is not online for anything, so she’s right for her life style.) I looked up Verizon, figuring the listings would include a number I could use and talk to a real, live, etc. human person.
There were three listings: local Verizon store; another local Verizon store; Verizon business assistance. I called a local Verizon store number. “Welcome to Verizon wireless.” Then the not-as-pleasant-voice, “Tikka, tikka, tikka Espanol, tikka, tikka, tikka.” The pleasant voice returned and listed options, the last of which was for making a payment. Hoo-ray! I pressed 4.

What? I don’t have to enter my doesn’t-exist secure password?
I paid my Verizon bill.
But in all honesty, Verizon has the most not-user-friendly systems ever.
