Texas soldier killed in 1945 identified


Penn C. Franks was born on Nov. 26, 1924, in Elm Grove, Fayette County, Texas. He was killed on Feb. 10, 1945, near Strettoia, Italy, where his unit, Company G, 371st Infantry Regiment, 92nd Infantry Division, attacked German positions on the Gothic Line in the Northern Apennine Mountains. Following the battle, his unit was unable to identify his remains. He was buried in the Florence American Cemetery and Memorial. His remains were identified on June 24, 1919.
