Some words after reading a Mark Steyn column

The column is here:

Laura Logan: “We are committing national suicide on the world stage right in front of everybody’s eyes.”

Also from Logan: “This is the greatest defeat of the world's superpower that anyone has ever seen... It is with shame and it is drenched in the blood of betrayal. And we are isolated on the world stage, and we are weak because of it - and the only people who benefit are America's enemies.”

From Steyn: Armies don’t lose wars; nations lose wars.

General Jack Keane: “Listen, the United States is still a superpower. It's Number One economic power in the world. It's got the strongest overall military power in the world despite some recent erosion in its capability. I mean, this is the country everybody wants to come to. People will still respect us.”

Me to the general: Nothing you said matters. A superpower? Against whom? With what? What does that even mean, a superpower? We can nuke into glass any country that pisses us off enough. So what?

Here’s a thing apparently forgotten during our 20-year war against Afghan rifles: Your goal should be to kill the enemy until he stops fighting. To do that, you develop tactics based on his capabilities and limitations vs. your own. The old “If you know your enemy and yourself…” from Sun Tzu, that every tactician claims to have read, but apparently none understands. Here is what our primary doctrine should be when our own soldiers are going into battle: Fuck the civilians. They are in the way. Bomb a town until everybody leaves. Tell other towns: “This is what will happen to you if you remain. Our enemies hide among you. Get out now.”
