Consent to be governed?

No man is good enough to govern another man without that other’s consent. – Abraham Lincoln

Well, now, Mr. President, between December 1860 and February 1861, 11 states, five independent Indian nations and Arizona Territory declared themselves independent of the United States. You saw fit to force these people and these areas back into the warm embrace of the United States. Your actions caused the deaths of 1 million Americans. Apparently, those Americans who denied consent to your governance did not know of your philosophy.
