Included in reasons were: bodies of humans tossed in upstream to guarantee a peaceful trip to paradise; animal carcasses thrown into rivers as the quickest way of getting rid of them; sewage flows into rivers because the country had practically no water treatment; and other equally logical reasons.
Last Sunday,
an Indian politician decided to drink water straight from a river to show the
water was clean. Two days later he was airlifted to a hospital because of
severe stomach pains.
