Berkeley council to spend $273,341 on natural gas spy

The liberal California city votes ban on installing natural gas in new buildings; decides to spend more than a quarter million dollars on “a staffer for a two-year position in the city’s Planning and Development Department to implement the ordinance.”

To show the natural gas ban would in no way degrade the city’s “rich culinary heritage,” Councilwoman Kate Harrison had a staffer melt a chocolate bar in a pot on a hotplate.
