The best Army training story

My brother Bill was drafted in 1970. After basic training at Fort Lewis, Wash., he went to Fort Jackson, S.C., for Military Police advanced individual training.

One day, Bill's company was trucked to a range. When the platoons of recruits were turned over to the range NCOIC, the sergeant said, "Now, I want all your Southern boys to go to the back, find some trees to sit under. The rest of you, come on up here, we're gonna teach you how to use a shotgun."
